Before you follow a stock tip

Don't Just Follow Stock Picks. Understand the Research Behind Them.

Free stock lists are everywhere. A ticker and a "buy" label tell you what someone suggests, not why. Learn the three checks we run on every stock on our lists, then see today's Daily list.

A Stock Tip Is a Starting Point, Not the Whole Analysis

Before you put money into any stock, from us or anyone else, ask three questions.

1

Is the price above or below its estimated value?

A discounted cash flow (DCF) estimate compares the price with what the business may be worth. It is an estimate: different assumptions give different values.

2

Are the company's numbers sound?

Growth, profit and debt matter more than how popular a stock is this week.

3

What does the chart say right now?

Trend, support and resistance help judge whether now is a reasonable time to look closer. They cannot predict the price.

A Popular Stock Is Not Automatically an Undervalued One

Many free lists favour stocks that have already risen a lot. Compare these two situations.

Stock A: price above its estimated value
Estimated value rangePrice today

It may still be a good business. But if the estimate is right, there is less room left, and more to lose if the price falls back.

Stock B: price below its estimated value
Estimated value rangePrice today

It looks cheaper than its estimated value. But the estimate can be wrong, or the business can get worse, so we also check the numbers and the chart.

How IM-AAM Checks a Stock

Every stock on our lists comes with the same research, so you can see why it is there, not just that it is there.

1

Estimate the fair-value range

Our DCF model gives each stock a valuation label, from Undervalued to Highly Overvalued, and draws its fair-value range on the chart.

2

Read the trend

A trend channel on the chart shows support and resistance. A technical score sums up the chart.

3

Check the company's numbers

A fundamental score sits next to the technical score, so one signal never stands alone.

4

Plan the target

Each stock shows a target selling price and target profit, which you can adjust to your own lot size and fees.

Questions

Does an undervalued stock always go up?

No. A stock can stay below its estimated value for a long time, or fall further. A DCF estimate depends on assumptions and is not a promise about the price.

Why do different websites disagree about the same stock?

They use different methods, data, assumptions and time frames. That's why it helps to see the research behind a tip, not just the tip.

Is DCF enough to decide on a stock?

No. It is one method. We show it together with a technical score, a fundamental score and the chart, and your own situation matters too.

Does IM-AAM guarantee profits?

No. Prices can rise or fall and you can lose money. Our research is for information and is not personal advice.
